Honduras is one of the poorest countries in the Western Hemisphere and has one of the highest percentages of HIV/AIDS in the world. These two problems give rise to thousands of homeless children. Leonarda’s Home of Hope, Inc. (LHOH) was established to provide for the housing and care of indigent children in Honduras and other areas of Central America.
Currently all of LHOH’s work is in Honduras and is concentrated in several major efforts.
- Provide for the medical care, education, and support of indigent children in Honduras.
- Provide food for hungry children in orphanages, nurture centers, day care centers and schools in needy areas of Honduras.
- Construction of orphanages in Honduras. Currently LHOH is building an orphanage for Comunión H in Limón, Colon, Honduras.
Limón is a small village in a remote area of Honduras within the Department of Colon, along the Caribbean Coast. Approximately a six hour drive from San Pedro Sula, the remote village is at the end of a poorly maintained dirt road.
On the left is a photo of Sor Leonarda Martinez Lali with some of the children at the Comunión H orphanage in Limón, Honduras. In 2006, Sor Leonarda was led by God to establish an orphanage (Comunión H) which today cares for up to 60 children (from babies to 16 years of age).
Today the orphanage operates in an abandoned hotel with the children sleeping in three bedrooms. In 2008 the owners allowed a bar/disco to rent an attached portion of the hotel. Though a new orphanage was a vision prior to the establishment of this bar/disco, the vision has become necessity and a new facility is currently under construction.

In responding to God’s call, Leonarda’s Home of Hope was organized in 2009 with the goal of helping provide for indigent children throughout Honduras, and since 2009 has been providing financial assistance to both Comunión H and others in need in Honduras. This has included funding for operational needs, helping with special medical care for children, and helping to provide children a proper education.
LHOH is not affiliated with any single church but is ecumenical in nature. We encourage all denominations to be part of God’s work in Honduras.
Since 2010, LHOH has been working in partnership with Stop Hunger Now to import SHN food to nourish not only the children at Comunión H , but also children in other orphanages, day care centers, nurture centers, clinics and schools elsewhere in Honduras. These programs are now changing the lives of many children in Honduras and giving them Hope and a Future.
